IAC GIRLS SOCCER: SHORT-HANDED SVEC PLAYS TOUGH IN LOSS TO LANSING (2023-09-25)

Tioga County Sports Report
LANSING — The SVEC girls soccer team scored three second-half goals, but couldn’t overcome a four-goal deficit in a 5-3 IAC girls soccer loss to unbeaten Lansing Monday night.

The Bobcats earned their 10th win behind Emma Heasley’s hat trick. Heasley scored 3:54 into the game, then gave Lansing a 3-0 lead at 32:07. Mairead Lyerla scored in between at 15:44. All three goals came on rebounds.

Heasley scored 1:59 into the second half to give the Bobcats a 4-0 advantage.

The Eagles scored on an own goal off a corner kick at 13:12 with Meradyth Stouffer picking up an assist.

Nadiyah Rahaman made it a 5-1 contest with a goal at 23:53.

SVEC would then score on a Stouffer corner at 34:57 and an Allie Lyon direct kick at 36:27.

“We only had 10 players available tonight and my girls fought until the very end,” SVEC coach Megan Friscia said. “Down 4-0 at the half, I just told them to continue to pressure the ball as much as they can in the second half and it paid off. All of our goals were scored on set pieces which is huge.

“Lansing did a great job crashing the goal which is how they got their first three goals.

“Hannah (Magyar) had a phenomenal day in goal. She made 16 saves including a penalty kick. I couldn’t ask for anything more from her. She’s really stepped up!”

Lansing took 27 shots to the Eagles’ six and held a 5-3 edge in corners.

SVEC (1-6) travels to Newfield Tuesday.
