SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: DEFENDING STATE CHAMPS DEFEAT NEWARK VALLEY (September 25, 2023)

NEWARK VALLEY — Defending Class B state champion Vestal won its seventh consecutive game Monday, defeating Newark Valley, 7-0, in Section IV Division 2 field hockey action.

Ranked 13th in the latest Northeast Region poll by maxfieldhockey.com, the Golden Bears scored three goals in the first quarter and led 5-0 at the half.

Kendall Brady, who is on the Max Field Hockey national watchlist, scored two goals as Vestal improved to 7-1 overall.

Helene Ryan contributed one goal and one assist, and Ava Peter, Suzie Moyer, Izzie Goncalves and Madison Lilley chipped in with one goal apiece.

Aubree Wenner and Allie Crowley added two assists each.

Vestal took 22 shots and attempted six penalty corners.

Grace Guiles made 10 saves in goal for the Cardinals. Dakota Callahan recorded three defensive saves and Ryan Schweckendieck added two more.

NV (0-9) hosts Owego (4-4) Tuesday.
