Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Owego’s Jaelyn Chrysler bested BGAH senior Ethne Degan by nearly 10 seconds to win the varsity girls title at the Owego Cross Country Invitational Saturday.

The sophomore posted a time of 18:46.4 while Degan ran an 18:56. The duo were the only runners to complete the course in under 20 minutes.

Last year, Degan and Chrysler ran in separate races at Owego, but Degan posted the faster time. The pair finished 1-2 in the same race in 2021 with Degan winning.

In 2022, Chrysler beat Degan at the Class C state championships while Degan crossed the finish line ahead of her at sectionals. In 2021, Chrysler came in one place ahead of Degan at both sectionals and states.

Newark Valley senior Harley Switzer clocked 20:53.5 to finish 10th overall in the field of 157 competitors who completed the race.

Freshman Madelyn Ellison led S-VE, finishing 16th in 21:21.1.

Junior Ayasha Schweiger was the top Candor runner, taking 19th in 21:31.6.

Other notable showings included Waverly junior Harper Minaker (6th, 20:47) and senior Elizabeth Vaughn (8th, 20:49.9), and Owego sophomore Lilly LaFever (12th, 20:58).

Athens won the team championship with 106 points while North Penn-Mansfield was the runner-up with 114 and Owego was third with 119.
