NEWARK VALLEY — The Newark Valley volleyball team dropped its second consecutive five-set marathon in three days, falling to Whitney Point, 3-2, Friday.

The Cardinals won the first two games, 25-13 and 26-24. However, the Golden Eagles regrouped to win the next three, 25-17, 25-21 and 15-10.

Cha Gardner recorded 16 kills for NV and also had four digs and three blocks. Rae Mathewson added seven assists, three digs and an ace; Rosie Wandell had nine nine assists, nine digs and three kills; and Joslyn Wright chipped in with seven digs, three aces and three kills.

Jenna Vosburgh contributed 13 digs, two aces, one kill and one assist; Laura Ludwig had five aces, three kills and three digs; HattieSue Hines added four digs and two aces; Michael Medina had 10 digs and two aces; and Matthew Kasper tacked on four digs.

NV (2-2) visits S-VE (4-0) Monday.
