IAC BOYS SOCCER: SVEC NIPS ELMIRA NOTRE DAME, 2-1 (2023-09-15)

TIOGA COUNTY — Steven Novak and Jason Banks hooked up for a pair of goals as the SVEC boys soccer team won its third consecutive game Thursday, defeating Elmira Notre Dame, 2-1.

Novak fed Banks for the game’s initial goal in the 17th minute.

The Crusaders tied things up on an own goal in the 25th minute with credit going to Emett Adams.

The game winner came in the 39th minute of the second half as Banks tallied with the assist again going to Novak.

"Tonight wasn't our best passing game or moving the ball as a team,” SVEC coach Jason Banks said. “However, I am proud of the boys for fighting to the end of the game and earning the win.”

SVEC edged ND in shots, 8-7, but the Crusaders held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Sirron Irvin made five saves for the Eagles and Jackson Porter had six for Notre Dame (2-2-2).

SVEC (3-1) is back on the pitch this evening, heading to Odessa-Montour (0-4) to play under the lights.
