WATKINS GLEN — Newark Valley defeated Watkins Glen, 3-1, in IAC Large School volleyball action Tuesday to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Cardinals won the first game, 25-14, but the Lake Hawks took the second, 25-18. NV claimed the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-18.

Cha Gardner had 18 kills, five digs, three blocks, two aces and two assists while Rosie Wandell dished out 18 assists. Rae Mathewson added seven assists, four aces and a kill; Joslyn Wright contributed six kills, two blocks, an ace, a dig and an assist; and Laura Ludwig added eighth aces, six kills and one dig.

Jenna Vosburgh had four kills and four digs; Michael Medina pitched in with seven digs, an ace, a kill and an assist; Matthew Kasper had four digs and an ace; Abby Groover added two digs and Rachel Parisot tacked on one dig.

The Cardinals host Tioga this evening.

JV: NV beat the Lake Hawks, 2-0. The scores were 25-21 and 25-18. The Cardinals also won the exhibition third game, 25-15.
