COLLEGE SWIMMING: OWEGO’S SHOEN RETURNS TO EASTERN MICHIGAN (2023-08-14)

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Owego grad Katie Shoen, who posted a personal record of 22.98 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle at the Mid-American Conference Swimming & Diving Championships in February, returns to Eastern Michigan for her senior year.
Shoen recorded a time of 22.99 seconds in the preliminaries, then trimmed 1/100th of a second off her time in the finals to place sixth. Her effort jumped her from 10th on EMU’s all-time list into the No. 5 spot.
She also reached the finals of the 200 medley relay, and the 200 and 400 free relays. The Eagles finished sixth in the medley (1:41.41), with Shoen swimming the anchor leg, seventh in the 400 free (no time reported) and eighth in the 200 free (1:35.14).
Shoen was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team and the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. An Actuarial Science & Economics major, she carried a 3.93 grade point average.
EMU holds its Green/White scrimmage Sept. 30 then opens the season Oct. 13 at Kentucky.
