YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO 14A TOPS SV, 7-1, TO ADVANCE TO TRI COUNTY TITLE GAME (2023-07-26)

Tioga County Sports Report
ENDICOTT — Connor Kotski struck out a dozen batters to lead Owego Teener 14A to a 7-1 victory over Susquehanna Valley in the 14U Tri County Teener League playoffs at Sertoma Field Wednesday.

Kotski threw the first 5 ⅓ innings, allowing just two hits and issuing two walks.

After Kotski struck out the side to open the game, Owego put a pair of runs in the book in the home half of the first.

Lynkon Craft started the team off with a base on balls and Payden Morales followed with a pop fly single to shallow center. John Farrell was walked in between a pair of outs, then Craft scored on a walk to Lucas Mott and Morales scored on a walk to Jackson Barrows.

Kotski retired the side again in the second, adding two more Ks to his total, and retired the side in the third by strikeouts.

Owego threatened in its half of the third when Farrell led off with a triple to right field, Nolan Card was hit by a pitch and Mott was issued a base on balls, but SV pitcher Weed retired the side to get out of trouble.

Sus Valley broke up Kotski’s bid for a perfect game in the fourth with a leadoff walk, then spoiled his attempt at a no-hitter and a shutout with a run-scoring two-out single.

Owego got the run back in the bottom of the inning with a Morales single, Kotski walk and a Farrell fielder’s choice.

In the fifth, Ryan Diedrich singled, Morro walked, Craft took one for the team, Morales walked to score a run and Kotski’s long fly out made it 5-1. Farrell singled to score a run and Card pushed the lead to 7-1 with a ground out.

Kotski would surrender one more single, then record his 12th strikeout before giving way to Morales, who finished up with three Ks and one walk in 1 ⅔ innings of relief.

Morales led Owego at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI while Farrell went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Craft contributed a hit and two runs; Card had a hit and an RBI; Diedrich added a hit and a run; Kotski, Mott and Barrows drove in one run apiece; and Caden Morrow scored once.

Owego returns to Sertoma Field Saturday at 3 p.m. to face RBI for the championship.
