The Sports Reports
There were a number of impressive performances turned in by our regional boys’ golfers both back in the fall in Pa., and this spring in New York, highlighted by The Sports Reports All-Region Boys’ "Golfer of the Year" — Athens junior Evan Cooper.

Cooper had an incredibly consistent season, culminating with his first trip to the PIAA Golf Championships. Cooper led the NTL with a 75.6 scoring average and shot a career-best round of 74 at Towanda Country Club on the day Athens clinched its second straight NTL title. His high round for the season was 83.

Cooper finished second at the District 4 Championships. He shot an 82 on Day 1, and followed it up with a 78 on Day 2. He finished tied for 57th at Class AAA state championships, shooting a two-day total of 161, with rounds of 80 and 81.

Candor’s Kevin Jester is the “Coach of the Year” Kevin Jester. He led Candor to a 13-0 record, as well as IAC Small School and overall championships, and a Section IV Class D title.

Jester’s current coaching win streak is at 32 dual matches, as prior to the end of a merger with S-VE, the program won 19 consecutive matches as the SVEC Eagles.

(The Sports Reports covers 24 school districts in four counties, and Corning.)
