The Sports ReportsThere were a number of impressive
performances turned in by our regional boys’ golfers both back in the
fall in Pa., and this spring in New York, highlighted by
The Sports Reports All-Region Boys’
"Golfer of the Year" — Athens junior Evan Cooper.
Cooper
had an incredibly consistent season, culminating with his first trip to
the PIAA Golf Championships. Cooper led the NTL with a 75.6 scoring
average and shot a career-best round of 74 at Towanda Country Club on
the day Athens clinched its second straight NTL title. His high round
for the season was 83.
Cooper finished second at the District 4
Championships. He shot an 82 on Day 1, and followed it up with a 78 on
Day 2. He finished tied for 57th at Class AAA state championships, shooting a two-day total of 161, with rounds of 80 and 81.
Candor’s
Kevin Jester is the “
Coach of the Year”
Kevin Jester. He led Candor to a 13-0 record, as well as IAC Small
School and overall championships, and a Section IV Class D title.
Jester’s
current coaching win streak is at 32 dual matches, as prior to the end
of a merger with S-VE, the program won 19 consecutive matches as the
SVEC Eagles.

FIRST TEAM
Evan Cooper, Athens: See above.
Jacob Banks, Candor: The
IAC medalist and two-time state qualifier carried a plus-1.6 scoring
average for nine holes. Tioga County Sports Reports “Player of the
Year.”;
Nishant Lahiri, Corning: Had a 3.3 over-par for nine holes. Qualified for NY states.
Southern Tier Sports Report "Golfer of the Year."
Brady Magliocca, Elmira: Recorded a 2.78 over-par average for nine holes.
Taylor Brock, Candor: Had a 2.3 average over-par for nine holes;
Luke Mayfield, Corning: Shot 4.1 over-par for nine holes;
Will Davis, Corning: Averaged 4.6-over par for nine holes;
Andrew Green, NP-Mansfield: Was
the runner-up in the NTL with 82.11 average, finished fourth at the
District IV tourney and tied for 25th at the PIAA Championships.
Northern Tier West Sports Report All-Tioga County "Golfer of the Year."
Noah Banks, Candor: Posted an average of 4.25 shots over-par for nine holes.
SECOND TEAM
Jack Creath, Corning: Averaged 5.25 over-par for nine holes;
Patrick Tammariello, Owego: He averaged 5.2 strokes over par per nine holes;
Tyler Green, Candor: Had a 5.25 average over-par for nine holes;
Evan Sickler, Tioga: Averaged 5.5 shots over-par for nine holes;
Nathan Gillette, S-VE: Average 6 over-par for nine holes;
Jacob Staats, Horseheads: Averaged 6.8 over-par for nine holes;
Tyler Roe, Tioga: Averaged 6.8 shots over-par per nine holes;
Nick Salsman, Wyalusing: Recorded an 86.29 average for 18 holes;
Jordan Vargeson, Cowanesque Valley: Tallied an 86.89 average for 18 holes;
Brody Fuhrey, Wyalusing: Had 87.05 average for 18 holes;
Peyton Farrell, Owego: The senior averaged 43.9 strokes per nine-hole round.
Nial Gardner, Notre Dame: Averaged 8.13 shots over-par for nine holes;

Dylan Saxon, Athens: Average 88.3 shots for 18 holes.
Jackson Potter, Notre Dame: Average 8.85 shots over-par per nine holes;
Hayden Zuchowski, Wellsboro: Posted a 90.33 average per 18 holes;
Joey Bernatavitz, Waverly: Had an average of 9 over-par for nine holes;
Andy Hermansen, NP-Mansfield: Posted a 93.33 average per 18 holes;
Cam Sullivan, Athens: Averaged 93.6 shots per 18 holes;
Ben Davis, Tioga: Average 11.5 shots over-par for nine holes;
Levi Bellis, Tioga: Had an average of 12 over-par for nine holes;
Landon McCarty, Waverly: Had an average of 12 over-par for nine holes;
Kaiden Kusmierz, Wyalusing: Averaged 94.9 shots per 18 holes;
