NEWARK VALLEY — Sandy Vaughn will be making saves at Elmira College this fall. The Newark Valley goalie signed her letter of intent at a group ceremony in May.
Vaughn will be joined by NV teammate Mackenzie Malone, who also chose the Soaring Eagles.
Elmira College is only about an hour from Newark Valley and it was what Vaughn was looking for.
“I chose Elmira college because I believe that was the best fit for me,” she said.
“My love and knowledge for field hockey” will be a plus for the Eagle program, she said. “Also, Kenzie and I are very good when playing together.”
“Sandy Vaughn is a hard worker with a positive attitude,” said Newark Valley head coach Jessica Doehring. “She is reliable and confident in goal. Sandy wants to do her best and I think will benefit greatly having other goalies to work with and a specialized goalie coach.
“I am excited to see how much more she can learn and master in the next four years.”
Vaughn ranked in the top 20 in the state in saves during her senior season.
She will be studying Early Childhood Education.
