COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OWEGO’S BIDWELL SIGNS WITH ALFRED U (2023-06-12)

OWEGO — Steven Bidwell was recognized as Owego’s Male Athlete of the Year Saturday, just four days after putting pen to paper to play football at Alfred University.

That award just goes to show the Saxons have added a multi-talented athlete to their program and Bidwell has found a new family.

“I chose to go to Alfred University because I loved their atmosphere,” he said. “It’s a family-like feeling and I instantly felt at home.”

Bidwell broke the single-game rushing record this past season with a 295-yard performance. He also grabbed the No. 2 spot in the school record book for rushing yards in a season (1,250) and touchdowns in a season (17).

A star on the lacrosse field as well, Bidwell’s leadership stood out as much as his athletic ability — both of which will be beneficial to Alfred U.

“I want to be able to bring my football abilities, leadership skills, teamwork skills and athletic abilities to help make the program better!”

Bidwell, who will join Indian teammate Nate Armstrong, plans to major in Health and Fitness Management.
