Tioga County Sports Report
SPENCER — SVEC’s Cody Sayre is ready to step on the diamond at Tompkins Cortland Community College next spring.
The Eagles’ senior signed to play baseball with the Panthers Tuesday in a dual ceremony which also included teammate Hunter Harmon.
“I chose TC3 because they have a major I enjoy, and I was contacted by the coach,” Sayre said, “(and) where he is allowing me to continue my baseball career as well as learn a career I am interested in.”
“Cody Sayre is a very dedicated athlete,” said SVEC coach Cliff Pierce. “His work ethic is contagious. He has a strong desire to succeed. He is capable of playing a wide variety of positions at the plate. He consistently puts the ball in play.
“For the last two seasons, he had the highest batting average and highest on-base percentage. This year he also led the team in steals.
“As a base runner, his baseball IQ will help a college team because he really understands situational baseball.
“As a pitcher, Cody has a good fast ball and an outstanding curve ball.
“Cody Sayre is a hard worker who could play any position on the field if asked,” SVEC coach David Swayze said.
“Even as a lefty at the plate. Cody is a very good contact hitter and very patient and very committed, and loves the game.
“He is a great teammate and helps to make everyone around him better. He will be missed by SVEC baseball as a player and a person. I look forward to seeing how well he does at the next level.”
“I have a lot to offer to TC#,” Sayre said. “I am coachable, a strong and aggressive baseball player, and an all-around great team member. I feel I can bring a lot to the team.
He will be studying Construction and Environmental Technology.
