OWEGO — Kyle Riegel gained valuable soccer experience while playing overseas last summer. On Tuesday, he committed that experience to Hartwick College during a mass signing ceremony.

Riegel was drawn to both the Hawks’ soccer program and the school’s educational offerings.

“I chose Hartwick because of its location, their continuously growing opportunity in the computer science field, and for its solid soccer program,” he said.

“Kyle Riegel will have a lot to offer Hartwick Men's Soccer both on and off the field,” said Owego head coach Alessio DeMichele. “He is a clever and technically skilled midfielder who is best at creating chances for teammates.”

“I will be offering the Hartwick men’s soccer program a humble but hungry mindset to bring to the team to make an impact from the start,” Riegel said, whose Indian teams won two Section IV Class B championships and played in two state playoff tournaments the past two seasons.

“Kyle is always looking to improve all aspects of his game, be it in the gym to improve athletically, in the kitchen to improve his diet, or in the classroom to improve his tactical awareness,” DeMichele added. “He will help create a culture of enjoyment and hard work which was a crucial factor in his success at Owego.”

Riegel will major in Computer Science with a minor in Cybersecurity.

Joining him at Hartwick will be his teammate and cousin, Jace Riegel.

The Hawks were 6-9-3 overall last season, went 3-4-2 in the Empire 8 Conference and advanced to the E8 semifinals.
