SECTION IV BOYS TRACK & FIELD: NEWARK VALLEY’S TRUESDAIL SHOCKS; OTHERS PERFORM WELL AT STATE QUALIFIER (2023-06-01)

Tioga County Sports Report
ENDICOTT — Newark Valley’s Dan Truesdail was the lone competitor in a field of 18 throwers at the Section IV Division II state qualifiers who had not heaved the shot put over 40 feet.

Seeded at the bottom of the field, Truesdail shocked throwers and onlookers alike as he shattered his seed distance, set three personal records and placed third in Division II and fourth overall with a distance of 43-1.

It wasn’t a bad day for some of Tioga County’s other athletes either.

Owego’s Jace Stuart placed second in D-2 in the 1600-meter run, posting a PR of 4:28.59. He was fifth overall.

The Indians’ Sully O’Donnell placed third in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10:46.61, taking seventh overall.

S-VE’s John Garrison was seventh in D-2 in the 1600, clocking 4:49.32.

Candor led the charge in the relays, placing fourth in Division II in the 4x400 relay. Jason Jantz, Wyatt Stouffer Matt Fitch and Parker Robinson registered a time of 3:36. 49, which was also good for eighth overall.

In the 4x800 relay, the Owego and Newark Valley quartets finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in D-2 and were also ninth and 10th overall.

Jaxson Belokur, Hunter Georgia, Ruben Lemmon and Stuart highlighted the Indians’ effort with a time of 8:53.53 while Titus Callahan, Logan Rhodes, Marcos Escalante and Jackson Hoover headed up NV’s charge with an 8:55.11.

Also competing during the two-day was the S-VE’s Pavel Jofre, who took ninth in the pentathlon.

The NYSPHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held June 9-10 at Middletown High School.
