SECTION IV GIRLS TRACK & FIELD: OWEGO’S TRIO SECURES SPOTS IN STATE MEET (2023-05-31)

Tioga County Sports Report
ENDICOTT — Owego’s Taylor Dalton won the long jump, and teammates Jaelyn Chrysler and Stella Palladino were runners-up in the 3000-meter run and 100 dash, respectively, at the Section IV Division II state qualifier Wednesday.

The top two finishers in each division in individual events advance to states.

Dalton was the 11th seed in Division II, but topped her best leap by five inches, reaching 16-0 ½, to snag a state spot. She was second overall behind a Division I jumper. She also ran in the 100 preliminaries and recorded a time of 13.46 seconds.

Chrysler came in as the top seed in Division II and was slightly slower in the sun and heat. Meanwhile, Dryden’s Reagan Burnham seemed to bask in the weather conditions, zapping more than 18 seconds off her best time to win the D-2 title. Burnham and Chrysler placed fourth and fifth overall.

Palladino posted a time of 12.92 seconds in the 100, trailing only a Division I runner and Odessa-Montour standout Victoria Brewster.

She was also ninth overall in the 200 preliminaries with a time of 27.11 seconds and took seventh in Division II

The Indians’ Alexandra Senko took fifth overall in the 100 hurdles preliminaries to move on to the finals. Her time of 17.03 seconds is fourth among Division II competitors.

She took seventh in the D-2 400 hurdles and was ninth overall, clocking 1:10.59.

Other Owego competitors were Ava Brown in the shot put (29-3), Sidney Senko in the 400 (1:08.15) and Abby Fahey in the 800 (2:42.5).

Newark Valley had three girls competing with Kathryn Simmons sitting in fifth place with 1,283 points. She’s just two points out of fourth place and 11 out of third with two events remaining. Her best finish on Day 1 was third in the high jump.

Kylee Carrier finished 10th in shot put with a heave of 30-4 and Harley Switzer competed in the 3000 with a time of 12:06.45.

Candor’s Lindsey Morse competed in the 100 hurdles and clocked 18.65 seconds.

Day 2 of the state qualifiers begins at 5 p.m.
