The foursome of Nathaniel Welch, Duncan Kerr, Kristian Mizdail and Owen Cummings brought home the first PIAA gold medal in Williamson program history Saturday, and Owego senior Alexandra Senko led Owego to the team title at the Section IV Class B Track & Field Championships. They are The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm Regional “Athletes of the Week” for the week ending May 27.

WILLIAMSON RELAY NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL BOYS “ATHLETES OF THE WEEK”
Williamson’s 3,200-meter relay team of Welch, Kerr, Mizdail, and Cummings ran a personal-best and school-record time of 7:59.73 to claim Williamson's first-ever state title at the PIAA Track & Field Championships.

Welch ran a 1:59.82 leg, while second leg Kerr had a personal-best 2:00.05. Mizdail ran 2:01.89, and Cummings brought it home in 1:57.98.

Mizdail narrowly missed out on two more medals finishing ninth in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs, while Cummings was 14th in the 800-meter run, and Welch finished 29th in the 800.

Honorable Mentions: Waverly’s Micah Chandler (track & field), Northeast Bradford’s Joe Stanton (baseball), Candor’s Jacob Banks (golf), and Elmira’s Austin Ward (Unified basketball).

OWEGO’S SENKO NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL GIRLS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Alexandra Senko was a quadruple-winner as the Indians captured the team title at the Section IV Class B Girls Track & Field Championship Tuesday.

The senior won the 100- and 400-meter hurdles events, and set a personal record in winning the triple jump. She also ran a leg of the victorious 4x400 relay.

Her triple jump of 34-feet, 7 1/4-inches topped her previous best by more than 2 1/2-feet. It’s the third longest in Section IV Division 2 and ranks fourth in the entire section. She was previously ranked 16th overall.

Senko clocked 17.18 in the 100 hurdles, winning by more than three-quarters of a second, and her time of 1:11.18 in the 400 hurdles was more than seven seconds faster than the runner-up.

She teamed with Sidney Senko, Olivia Dodge and Stella Palladino for a time of 4:34.63 in the relay.
