SECTION IV TRACK & FIELD: CANDOR’S MORSE, OWEGO’S CHRYSLER & SNYDER LEAD TIOGA COUNTY INTO STATE QUALIFIER (2023-05-29)

Tioga County Sports Report
ENDICOTT — Candor’s Kara Morse, and Owego’s Jaelyn Chrysler and Gabe Snyder are Tioga County’s best bets to capture berths in the 2023 NYSPHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held June 9-10 at Middletown High School.

Morse, who tied her own school record of 5-2 in the high jump last week, is at the head of the pack with Chenango Valley’s Delaney Walters, who has also cleared 5-2.

Chrysler is the top seed in Division II in the 3,000-meter run. She has clocked 10:57.94 which is almost 22 seconds ahead of the next best time, 11:19.48 by Dryden’s Reagan Burnham. Chrysler is also the three seed in the 1500 at 5:04.75, but will have to make up some ground to challenge Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton’s Ethne Degan (4:41.4) and Susquehanna Valley’s Brynn Hogan (4:49.44).

Snyder cleared 14-1 earlier this season, best in Division II, and is one of only three vaulters to eclipse 14 feet with the top vaulter being from Division I while D-2 Delhi’s Vincent VanMaaren has reached 14 feet even.

Owego’s Jace Riegel is seeded second in the 3200 with a time of 9:42.95. South Kortright’s Emerson Comer is the top seed with a 9:35.37. Riegel is also seeded third in the 1600 (4:32.83) behind Alton Francisco from Delhi (4:29.93) and Trent Thibault of Lansing (4:30.22).

Sully O’Donnell is the No. 2 seed in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10:39.02 but will have to make up considerable time if he hopes to overtake top-seeded Comer, who has run a 9:55.54.

S-VE’s John Garrison is seeded third in the 3200 with a time of 9:51.2 and fifth in the 1600 at 4:36.46.

Owego’s Alexandra Senko is the third seed in the triple jump after posting a personal best of 34-7 ¼ at the class sectionals. Lansing’s Kristen Johnston (35-6 ½) Dryden’ Carlea Davis (34-9 ½) are the top jumpers.

Newark Valley’s Kylee Carrier is the No. 5 seed in the shot put with a heave of 34-2 ¼ and the No. 6 seed in the discus with a toss of 94-6.

Owego’s Stella Palladino has drawn fifth and sixth seeds as well. She is No. 5 in the 100 (:12.83) and No. 6 in the 200 (:27.37).

Other individual competitors include Candor’s Lindsey Morse (100 hurdles) and Ayasha Schweiger (2000 steeplechase); Newark Valley’s Harley Switzer (1500, 3000), Logan Rhodes (pole vault), Dan Truesdail (shot put); Owego’s Taylor Dalton (100), Abigail Fahey (800), Ava Brown (shot put), Evan Wasielewski (110 hurdles, 400 hurdles), Sam Cunningham (pole vault) and Caleb Hoover (discus), and NV’s Kathryn Simmons and S-VE’s Pavel Jofre in the pentathlon.

In the relays, Owego (Jaxson Belokur, Hunter Georgia, Ruben Lemmon, Stuart, Dawson Bell, Magavin Allen) is the fifth seed in the boys 4x800 with a time of 8:54.07.

Also competing are the Owego girls 4x400 and girls 4x800 (Abby Fahey, Lilly LaFever, Cameron Pichany, Chrysler, Abigail McHugh, Madison Webb, Chrysler) the Candor boys 4x400 (Jason Jantz, Wyatt Stouffer, Matt Fitch, Parker Robinson, James Kane) and the Newark Valley boys 4x800 (Titus Callahan, Rhodes, Marcos Escalante, Jackson Hoover, Elijah Williams, Anvil Illsley).
