IAC SOFTBALL: SVEC ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH THIRD STRAIGHT WIN (2023-05-12)

Tioga County Sports Report
SPENCER — The SVEC softball team closed out the regular season with its third straight win, holding off Watkins Glen, 11-9, in IAC action Wednesday.

A 4-run second inning and 5-run fourth fueled the Eagles’ effort.

An RBI single by Roni Presher scored Katelyn Klym and an RBI double by Grace Handy plated Presher for a 2-0 lead. After Adriena Farmer walked, Ciara Peterson singled to make it 3-0, then scored on an error.

Clinging to a 5-3 lead in the fourth, Raegan Sudnikovich rounded the bases on an outfield error, then Faith Brenchley and Jill Holmes tagged the Senecas for solo home runs and an 8-3 lead. Walks to Presher and Farmer preceded a two-run single by Peterson which gave the Eagles a 10-3 cushion.

That lead didn’t last long as a pair of doubles and two singles by the Senecas cut the gap to 10-7 in the top of the fifth.

Sudnikovich reached base on a dropped third strike to start the bottom of the inning, stole second and third, and scored on an error for SVEC’s final run.

Watkins Glen responded with a two-run triple in the top of the sixth and put a pair of runners in scoring position in the seventh, but was unable to add any more runs.

Handy was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Holmes, who also homered in the third, went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Peterson was 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI, and Katelyn Klym went 2-for-3 with a run.

Presher contributed a hit, two runs and an RBI; Sudnikovich had a hit and two runs; Farmer added two runs; Brenchley tacked on a hit, run and RBI.
