STAC SOFTBALL: OWEGO FALLS TO FORKS IN EXTRA INNINGS (2023-05-04)

OWEGO — Chenango Forks saw the lead slip away three times, but scored a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat Owego, 8-6, in STAC softball action Wednesday.
The Blue Devils wrapped a triple and a double around an error to score their final two runs.
Forks led 2-0 after the first inning, but Owego tied the score in its half of the second on a Saylor Ayers walk, an error off the bat of Maia Smith, Sarah Terry’s run-scoring sacrifice fly and a Carsten Crawford RBI triple.
The Devils turned a single, triple and two walks into two runs in the third, but the Indians got one back in the bottom of the inning after Natalie Donovan reached on an error and scored on Jordan Greeno’s sac fly.
Owego went ahead, 5-4, in the fourth on a Terry single, a Crawford bunt fielder’s choice and a Miley Laubach base hit that scored Ashlynn Dalton.
A hit batter, two errors and two base hits allowed Forks to take a 6-5 lead in the seventh, but the Indians used a Layla Etienne single, an Ayers sacrifice bunt, a Smith walk and a Morgan Francisco RBI single to send the game into extra innings.
Terry led Owego at the plate, going 2-for-2. Laubach, Etienne, Francisco and Crawford had the team’s other hit.
Crawford struck out 12, walked five and allowed five earned runs.
Owego hosts Seton Catholic today.
