Tioga County Sports Report
WAVERLY — SVEC played errorless defense, but couldn’t muster the necessary runs needed in a 5-2 IAC softball setback against Waverly Monday.
The Eagles plated a run in the top of the first inning when Faith Brenchley belted an inside-the-park home run on a hard ground ball to center field.
The Wolverines scored twice in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead when Faith Blauvelt singled to score a run. Lea VanAllen made it 2-1 when she stole home.
Waverly scored three more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a triple from Brinn Cooney.
SVEC’s other run came in the seventh. Raegan Sudnikovich reached on a dropped third strike, advanced to second on a Brenchley single, stole third and scored on an error.
Jill Holmes followed with a double, but Waverly pitcher Olivia Robinson induced a pair of fly ball outs to end the game.
Brenchley led the Eagles at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a run and RBI. She also had six putouts and an assist in the field.
Holmes and Roni Presher each went 1-for-3.
