TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: OWEGO’S FARRELL, SENKO NAMED NEW YORK ARMY NATIONAL GUARD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK (2023-04-24)

TIOGA COUNTY — A senior track star and senior diamond standout have been selected the New York Army National Guard top athletes for the past week.
OWEGO’S FARRELL IS BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Pitcher / outfielder Peyton Farrell hit .500 (7-for-8) over three games and recorded a win on the mound as the Indians improved to 8-0 on the season.
In an 11-4 victory over Chenango Forks, the senior had one at-bat, scored three runs and walked once, and earned the victory, going five innings with four strikeouts. He added a double and drove in two runs in a 6-1 win over defending Section IV Class B champion Oneonta.
Farrell wrapped up his week in style, going 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and five RBI in an 11-6 triumph over Susquehanna Valley. He also made a “highlight film” style sliding catch in left field.

OWEGO’S SENKO IS GIRLS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Alexandra Senko won three events and placed second in another as the Owego girls track & field team tied Section IV Division I Elmira, each with 58.5 points, and defeated Division II rival Seton Catholic, 58.5-9.
The senior won both the 100- and 400-meter hurdles with times of 17.75 seconds and 1:33.9, and ran the lead-off leg of the 4x400 relay, which clocked 5:02. She was also the runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 26-9.
