IAC SOFTBALL: SVEC PUMPS OUT 19 HITS IN WIN OVER NEWARK VALLEY (2023-04-22)

NEWARK VALLEY — The SVEC bats were on fire Friday as the Eagles cranked out 19 hits to defeat Newark Valley, 18-2, in IAC softball action.

Seven SVEC batters collected multiple hits in the 5-inning win. Hannah Smith led the way, going 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI while Raegan Sudnikovich went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Faith Brenchley and Adriena Farmer each went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI; Katelyn Klym and Grace Handy both went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI; Roni Presher was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI; and Mikayla Duncan was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Jill Holmes added a hit and a run, and Summer Taylor drove in a run.

The Eagles scored three runs in each of the first two innings to grab a 6-1 advantage. A Holmes RBI double in the first and Brenchley’s two-run home run in the second highlighted the early surge.

The Cardinals picked up their initial run in the bottom of the first after Joslyn Wright led off with a double and scored on Leah Austin Whitteaker’s fly out.

SVEC made it 8-1 in the third with three consecutive two-out singles and a Sudnikovich double.

The Eagles scored four runs in the fourth on a Klym single, Presher double, Handy’s two-run triple, a run-scoring error and a Duncan base hit.

The visitors added another half-dozen tallies in the fifth with doubles by Brenchley, Klym, Handy and Smith, and singles from Presher, Farmer and Sudnikovich.

NV added one more run in its half of the fifth as Mackenzie Malone led off with a double, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Rosie Wandell single.

Wandell went 2-for-4 with an RBI; Wright and Malone each had a hit and a run; Hattie Sue Hines added a hit; and Whittaker added an RBI.

Presher got the win, striking out six and walking four.

SVEC (5-5) visits Waverly and NV (0-6) heads to Edison Wednesday.
