IAC SOFTBALL: SVEC FADES LATE AFTER SOLID START IN LOSS TO DRYDEN (2023-04-20)

DRYDEN — Kahlen Cornell, an NCAA Division II commit, delivered a two-run walk-off double to lift Dryden to a 7-6 victory over SVEC in IAC softball action Thursday.
The senior pitcher, who went 4-for-4 on the day, also struck out 10 batters.
The Eagles took a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but the Purple Lions picked up four of their 10 hits, including a trio of doubles. They also took advantage of a SVEC error.
SVEC was dominant at the onset, scoring four runs in the top of the first. Raegan Sudnikovich led off with a single and scored with the help of a pair of Dryden errors. Faith Brenchley, who reached base on an error, also scored on an error.
Katelyn Klym and Roni Presher followed with back-to-back doubles with Klym scoring on Presher’s hit and Presher scoring on an error to make it 4-0.
The Lions responded with two runs in the bottom half of the first, but SVEC countered with a pair in the second.
Cheylee Campbell and Brenchley drew walks, and Jill Holmes smacked a two-run double to make it a 6-2 contest.
Presher struck out the side in the bottom of the second then Cornell fanned the side in the third.
The Eagles loaded the bases with two down in the fourth, but couldn’t score.
Dryden cut the lead to 6-3 on Cornell’s third double of the game in the fifth.
Extra-base hits were the order of the day as Cornell had four doubles and the team six total while SVEC received two doubles from Presher, and one apiece from Holmes, Klym and Sudnikovich.
Presher ws 2-for-4 at the plate with a run and RBI while Sudnikovich went 2-for-4 with a run. Holmes had a hit and three RBI, Klym added a hit and a run, Brenchey scored twice, Campbell had a run, and Grace Handy, Adriena Farmer and Hannah Smith tacked on a hit apiece.
SVEC visits Newark Valley Friday.
