IAC SOFTBALL: SVEC RIDES 8-RUN FOURTH TO WIN OVER DRYDEN (2023-04-18)

SPENCER — SVEC scored eight runs in the fourth inning to defeat Dryden, 12-5, in IAC softball action Tuesday,
Faith Brenchley’s home run highlighted the uprising.
Clinging to a 4-3 edge, the Eagles got their first run of the inning when Hannah Smith walked, advanced on a passed ball and scored on an error off the bat of Cheylee Campbell. Campbell would then score on an error off the bat of Raegan Sudnikovich.
Next up was Brenchley who belted a two-run shot to left to make it 8-3. Jill Holmes and Katelyn Klym followed with back-to-back singles with Holmes scoring then, with two way, Grace Handy singled Klym home to make it 10-3.
Adriena Farmer walked, Smith singled Handy home and Farmer scored on a passed ball to push the lead to 12-3.
Holmes’ two-out triple followed by Klym’s run-scoring single tied the game at one in the first, but the Purple Lions went ahead, 3-1, in the third.
In the bottom of the inning, Campbell walked and scored on a Brenchley single and Brenchley scored on an error off the bat of Klym. Roni Presher put SVEC up, 4-3, with a double.
Brenchley went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI to lead the Eagles at the plate while Klym was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, and Holmes was 2-for-4 with two runs.
Smith and Handy had a hit, run and RBI apiece, Campbell scored twice, and Sudnikovich and Farmer tacked on one run each.
Pressure struck out 10, gave up eight hits and five walks, and allowed three earned runs to get the win.
SVEC (4-3) plays Edison Wednesday at Candor Elementary.
