IAC SOFTBALL: SVEC AVENGES EARLIER LOSS TO WAVERLY (2023-04-12)

SPENCER — SVEC avenged a previous loss to Waverly with a 13-9 victory in IAC softball action Wednesday.

The Eagles received multiple runs from their top four batters as they improved to 2-0 on the season.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first, SVEC took advantage of three walks and a dropped third strike to tie the game. Two errors and a single by Ciara Peterson also contributed to a 6-3 advantage.

Raegan Sudnikovich, Adriena Farmer, Jill Holmes, Kate Klym, Roni Presher and Hannah Smith accounted for the runs.

The Wolverines got two back in the second following triples by Alayna Miller, Madison Cron and Brinn Cooney while Holmes walked and scored in the SVEC half of the inning to make it 7-3.

The Eagles increased their lead to 11-3 in the third as Sudnikovich walked, Farmer singled, Holmes walked and Faith Brenchley walked, and the quartet scored.

Waverly rallied for a half-dozen runs in the fourth on two singles, three errors and a walk, cutting the gap to 11-9, but Presher retired nine of the final 10 batters, giving up a a two-out error in the sixth and a single with two away in the seventh.

Meanwhile, SVEC tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth with Sudnikovich reaching on an error and scoring, and Klym smacking a double and scoring.

The Eagles outhit the Wolverines, 13-11, and committed six errors to Waverly’s three.

Presher allowed just three earned with eight strikeouts and two walks. Two Waverly pitchers surrendered 11 earned runs, struck out 10 and walked 11.

Presher backed up her effort in the circle with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate which included four TBI and a run.

Sudnikovich went 3-for3 with three runs and an RBI; Klym went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI; and Smith was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI.

Farmer added a hit and two runs, Handy had a hit and a run, Holmes scored twice, Brenchley tacked on a run, and Peterson chipped in with a hit and RBI.

SVEC (2-2) hosts Trumansburg Thursday.
