ALL-TIOGA COUNTY BOYS BOWLING: WAVERLY SWEEPS TOP AWARDS (2023-03-21)

TIOGA COUNTY — Waverly’s Zach Vanderpool led his team to a 4th-place showing at the NYSPHSAA Division 2 Boys Bowling Championships and placed 10th in the individual standings. He also won two of three other postseason tournaments. Those accomplishments earned the senior the honor of 2022-23 All-Tioga County "Boys Bowler of the Year.”

Vanderpool rolled 667 and 601 series for a 1,268 total and a 211.33 average at states. His 215 season average led the IAC and was the fourth highest among all Section IV competitors.

He captured the Section IV State Qualifier, shooting 2,105 over the course of nine games for a 233.89 average, and also won the Section IV Class C title with a 706 series (second among all classes).

The “Newcomer of the Year” is Waverly Michael Cole. The first-year senior carried a 173 average and played a key role in the Wolverines’ effort at states. He stepped in in the second session and rolled games of 220, 212 and 192 for a 208 average, which was highest among competitors who only bowled one series.

Waverly’s Derek Bowman is the “Coach of the Year.” The Wolverines won the IAC Large School division during the regular season (55-5), then won the Section IV Class C tournament and the Section IV State Qualifier for the second-year mentor.
