ALL-TIOGA COUNTY GIRLS BOWLING: SVEC’S MARSH HEADS LIST OF TOP LADY KEGLERS (2023-03-20)

TIOGA COUNTY — SVEC’s Janelle Marsh carried the high average, won the Section IV Class D individual title and qualified for the state championships to earn the honor of 2022-23 All-Tioga County "Girls Bowler of the Year."

A senior at Candor, she carried a 185 average into the state championships, where she tied for 29th place in a field of 66 bowlers in Girls Composite tournament. She posted a six-game total pinfall of 1152 and her scores included a 209 in the first round and a 203 in the second to help the Section IV all-star team finish third overall.

She placed third at the IAC tournament with a 596 series. During the season, Marsh set program records with a 266 game and 663 series.

The "Newcomer of the Year" is Rachel Hartman of Newark Valley. A freshman, she finished the season with a 136 average. Her high game was a 211 and her high series was a 472 during the regular season. Hartman placed 11th at the IAC championships (545).

Waverly’s Derek Bowman is the "Coach of the Year." The team finished one point out of first place in the IAC Large School division during the regular season (48-12), then won the overall championship at the IAC tournament.

The Wolverines placed third at the Section IV Class C tournament and posted the eighth-highest series out of 31 teams in all classifications.

Waverly was the only team in the IAC to eclipse 40,000 total pins and had a league-best 941 team average.

The Wolverines advanced two bowlers to the state qualifier.
