BALTIMORE — Newark Valley grad Mikey Wandell picked up his first collegiate victory in SUNY Cortland’s 13-1 victory over Transylvania at the Baltimore Invitational Feb. 24.

The freshman entered the game with two out in the top of the fifth inning with the potential tying run at the plate and walked a batter before getting a flyout to end the threat.

He was awarded the victory since, with starter Will McCarthy not pitching five innings, he was deemed the "most effective" reliever due to his success in the toughest situation faced by the Red Dragon bullpen.

Wandell is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA. He has allowed five hits in six innings, with two runs, only one of which is earned. He’s given up four walks while registering three strikeouts.
