TIOGA COUNTY — A pair of basketball standouts have been selected the Twin Tier Dumpsters top athletes for the past week.

OWEGO’S BANGEL IS BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
John Bangel scored 29 points and dominated on the boards as Owego upset top-seeded Chenango Forks, 52-33, in the Section IV Class B championship game.

The senior forward was perfect at the free throw line, going 6-for-6, and tacked on a 3-pointer in the process.

Honorable Mentions: Owego basketball.

NEWARK VALLEY’S BEEBE IS GIRLS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Senior Hayley Beebe scored a game-high 18 points to lead NV to a 51-36 victory over Chenango Forks in the Section IV Class B championship game.

A point guard, she went 11-for-12 at the free throw line. She also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out four assists and added a 3-pointer as NV, ranked second in the state, improved to 22-0 on the season.

It’s the Cardinals’ second straight sectional title (they won at the Class C level in 2022).

Honorable Mentions: Newark Valley basketball.
