YOUTH BASKETBALL: DOMINANT M-E TOPS HOST TEAM FOR CANDOR 6th-GRADE TOURNEY TITLE (2023-02-20)

CANDOR — With a bevy of players putting points on the scoreboard, Maine Endwell cruised to the 6th-grade championship at the 2023 Candor Youth Association Boys Basketball Tournament Sunday.

M-E held Candor without a point for the first 10 ½ minutes to grab a comfortable double digit lead.

At the other end of the court, Jackson Buckley, one of a pair of 5-foot-9 standouts, scored 10 first-half points as M-E built a 29-5 cushion at the break.

Buckley finished with 15 points while Declan Grace, who also stands 5-9, added seven more. Kyle Hennessey and Trox Wilson contributed six points each, Grady Skorupa had five, Dayton Matthews four, Chase Fisher and Oliver Stewart added two apiece, and TJ Hurba tacked on one point.

For Candor, Kellen Williamson put in nine points and Ethan Eiklor added two.

Also on the Candor team were Jace Andrews, Evan Combs, Jeremiah Goss, Avery Klick, Braden Powers and Mason Rose.

The tournament included teams from Candor, M-E, Newfield, S-VE, Tioga, Waverly and two teams from Trumansburg.
