SECTION IV JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO DOWNS S-VE, 38-20 (2023-01-26)

SPENCER — Five players combined for 15 points as Owego distanced itself from S-VE in the third quarter and went on to post a 38-20 JV girls basketball victory Tuesday.

The Indians led 17-11 at the half, then went on a 15-4 run in the third. Stella Palladino and Keely Wicklund set the pace with four points each during the surge.

Owego’s Kylie Grippen scored a game-high seven points. Jaelyn Crysler and Ashlyn Dalton put up six apiece, Palladino and Wicklund finished with four each, and Mia Hall tacked on two.

The Panthers’ Hannah Smith matched the game-high with seven points, and also had six rebounds and two assists. Lauren Gillette recorded four points and three rebounds; and Lilyanah Doolittle had three points, 10 rebounds, three steals and a block.

Andralyn Wallace contributed three points, three boards and three steals for S-VE; Katelyn Klym had three points, a rebound and a steal; Sofia San Martin added four steals, three rebounds and an assist; and Kaylee Kastenhuber had three rebounds and a steal.

Owego 40, Norwich 29
The Indians spread their scoring out evenly over all four quarters, scoring between nine and 11 points in each period last Friday.

Owego held the Purple Tornado to two second-quarter points to build a 19-8 advantage at the half and built a 29-12 cushion heading into the final frame.

Dalton and Dodge led the way with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Palladino contributed six points, Chrysler chipped in with five, Evelyn Howe had three, Mikayla Wilbur added two and Grippen scored one.

Marathon 33, S-VE 22
The Panthers rallied in the second and third periods last Friday to grab a 15-14 edge heading into the fourth quarter, but the Olympians erupted for 19 points at the end.

Doolittle led all scorers with 11 points, including a 3-pointer, and also pitched in with five rebounds and three steals.

Smith hit for seven points with one trey, three steals, an assist and a rebound; Kastenhuber added a 3-ball, five boards and two assists; and Klym had one point, seven boards, and an assist.

Makana Diboun recorded five steals, two assists and a rebound; Gillette pulled down five boards; and Wallace added a steal and a rebound.
