SECTION IV CHEERLEADING: NEWARK VALLEY WINS WILDCAT WINTER COMPETITION DIVISION, OVERALL TITLES (2023-01-24)

JOHNSON CITY — The Newark Valley cheerleading squad won the Co-ed division and the overall grand championship at the Wildcat Winter Competition here Friday night.

The Cardinals won the division by beating Oneonta with a score of 73.4 and were also awarded the grand champion title by recording the highest score of the event.

This is the first time in program history that NV has won a Section IV invite competition.

The team competed against Chenango Forks, Maine Endwell, Seton Catholic, Chenango Valley, Waverly, Dryden, Oneonta, Windsor and Susquehanna Valley.

NV team members include Mackenzie Benjamin, Laney Brind, Hailey Engbith, Skye Gorsline, Hannah Hayes, Eric Hunt, Rae Mathewson, Michael Medina, Kassidi Morris, Rachel Parisot, Kayden Rockwell, Kathryn Simmons, Sandy Vaughn and Joslyn Wright.

The team is coached by Katie Brindisi and assisted by Dennis Wright.

Newark Valley will be back in action Saturday at Edison, then host the IAC championships Feb. 11.
