OWEGO — Bobby Struble was the lone Owego competitor to reach the finals of the STAC Wrestling Championships Saturday.

Teammates Collin Monell and Jonathan Gilliland placed fourth and sixth, respectively.

The second-seeded Struble, a sophomore, lost to top-seeded Mason McCombs of Windsor in the finals by fall in 18 seconds. McCombs is ranked third in the state in Division II.

Struble advanced to the title bout by pinning Horseheads’ Liam Levantovich in 3:55 in the semifinals earlier in the day.

Monell, seeded fourth at 110, dropped his semi to No. 1 seed Ryan Ferrara of Chenango Forks. He then decked Oneonta’s Marshall Mahar in 2:26 to advance to the consolation finals. In the third-place bout, he lost to Ithaca’s Quentin Getzin by a 12-3 major decision.

Ferrara and Getzin are ranked No. 3 and No. 10, respectively, in the state in Division I.

Gilliland, the fifth seed at 118, opened the day with a pin over Jamari Howard of Union-Endicott in 1:46, then lost to Susquehanna’s Carl Harold, 6-0, and Elmira’s Liam Ogden, 2-0.

Jozsiah Varga-Flynn (145) was the only other Owego wrestler to win a match Saturday. He dispatched Robert Archie of Binghamton 2:45 before being eliminated by Zach Schrage of Horseheads by fall in 4:48.

Horseheads won the team championship. Owego finished 13th.
