STAC BOYS BASKETBALL: OWEGO ROLLS TO ANOTHER VICTORY (2023-01-22)

Tioga County Sports Report
NORWICH — Owego surpassed 70 points for the second straight game Friday, defeating Norwich, 74-56, in STAC boys basketball action Friday evening.

The Indians ran out to a 23-16 lead, then extended their advantage to 50-25 at halftime.

“Scored 50 in the first half and then decided to coast in the second,” Owego coach Chris Evans said, “which didn’t make their coach too happy.

“We are trying to develop better habits as we move toward the postseason. Our defense must get back to where it was a few weeks ago.”

John Bangel scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the second period. He shot 77 percent from the field (10-for-13), contributed a 3-pointer, went 3-for-4 at the free throw line and pulled down eight rebounds.

“He has been absolutely dominant this past week,” Evans said.

Joe Palladino, Drew Tavelli and Kam Wicklund chipped in with one trey apiece. Tavelli finished the game with 15 points, and Palladino and Wicklund scored five and three, respectively. Palladino was also 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.

Joe Bangel recorded eight points, going 4-for-4 at the stripe. Ryan Pryor and Aaron Riegel added four points each, Riley Loomis had three, and Jack Hoyt and Talon Schumacher tacked on two apiece.
