STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: BENNETT, MCEVOY GO DOWNTOWN TO CARRY OWEGO TO VICTORY (2023-01-19)

OWEGO — Maddie Bennett and Madison McEvoy had their long-range radars zeroed in Thursday evening as they connected for 10 3-pointers to lead Owego to a 57-32 rout of Norwich in STAC girls basketball action.

The Indians grabbed a 13-3 first-quarter lead with Bennett draining her first two treys.

The second quarter saw Owego erupt for another 23 points with Bennett and McEvoy knocked down two 3-balls apiece, pushing the Owego advantage to 36-11 at halftime.

Bennett nailed her fifth trey of the night in the third quarter and McEvoy canned three more in the final frame.

Bennett scored a game-high 21 points and tacked on six assists, five steals, four rebounds and two blocks while McEvoy hit for 19 points, five assists, four steals, four rebounds and two blocks.

Cassie Doane contributed six points, one steal and five rebounds; Taylor Dalton recorded four points, three assists, five steals and four boards; and Oriah Boland added three points, two steals and two rebounds.

Ava Brown helped out with two points, one assist, one steal, four rebounds and two blocks; Kayla Newman had one point and three rebounds; Lexi Herceg tacked on one point, one assist and two rebounds; and Stella Doty snagged two rebounds.

The Purple Tornado received 11 points from Olivia Schiraldi, all in the second half, and another 10 from Cameron VanHouten.

Owego (8-5) will step away from STAC competition to make a short trip to S-VE Tuesday for a non-league contest with the Panthers.
