IAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: CANDOR SPLITS WITH TIOGA, S-VE (2023-01-19)

CANDOR — The Candor JV girls basketball team split with two IAC South Small School games recently, falling to Tioga, 40-25, Tuesday, then defeating S-VE, 22-19, Wednesday.
Tioga 40, Candor 25
The Tigers put up 11 first-quarter points en route to a 17-12 halftime advantage, then pulled away in the second half behind a 15-10 third and 8-3 fourth.
Tioga’s Taliah Speer pumped out 19 points with three 3-pointers to her credit. RaeAnne Feeko added 10 points.
Claire Rollins paced the Indians with 11 points. Hannah Magyar chipped in with eight and Megan Williamson added six.
The Indians went 6-for-19 at the free throw line and Tioga was 1-for-4.
Candor 22, Spencer 19
The two teams matched up evenly in the bookend quarters, each scoring five points in the first and eight in the fourth.
The difference, however, was the Indians’ 4-0 run in the second that gave them a 9-5 lead at the break.
S-VE took the third period, 6-5.
Rollins led Candor with 11 points, Williamson had six, Ava Fernando contributed four and Hannah Magyar tacked on another three.
The Indians went 6-for-17 at the charity stripe.
The Panthers’ Lauren Gillette led her squad with 10 points and had two rebounds. Mikana Diboun had four points, four steals and three assists; Lilyana Doolittle added three points and eight boards; Kaylee Kastenhuber tacked on two points and two steals; and Hannah Smith and Katelyn Klym pulled down five and four boards, respectively.
S-VE was 5-for-12 at the line.
