IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: FREE THROW REVERSAL COSTLY TO S-VE (2023-01-18)

NEWFIELD — S-VE and Newfield reversed roles at the free throw line in the fourth quarter, giving the Trojans a 41-37 victory in IAC South Small School girls basketball action Tuesday evening.

Newfield managed to make just four of 17 foul shots through three quarters, but went 9-for-14 in the final frame.

Meanwhile, the Panthers went 0-for-4 at the charity stripe over the final eight minutes after going 11-for-20 during the first three periods.

S-VE fell behind, 11-5, in the first quarter and trailed, 23-13 at the half, but rallied in the third to pull within 27-25.

Abby Bunce recorded a double-double for the Panthers, scoring 13 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. She also had two blocks, two steals and an assist.

Gabby Evans added nine points, three steals and a rebound; Aubrie Kastenhuber had eight points, five boards and two steals; Raegan Sudnikovich registered two points, eight boards, four steals and an assist; Marah Cooper had three points,four boards and an assist; and Faith Brenchley tacked on two points, two steals and a rebound.

Aaliyah McCoy and Natalie Tibbals scored 10 points apiece for the Trojans.
