IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY HOT FROM DOWNTOWN IN WIN OVER NEWARK VALLEY

WAVERLY — Waverly was hot from downtown Tuesday night, knocking down 14 3-pointers in a 78-41 IAC South Large School boys basketball victory over Newark Valley.
Joey Tomasso, who canned six treys on the evening, made four in the first quarter as the Wolverines ran out to a 25-9 lead.
Jay Pipher added a trey and went 4-for-4 at the free throw line in the opening stanza.
Tomasso chalked up another 10 points in the second period as he and Pipher knocked down two more 3-balls apiece, giving Waverly a 33-17 cushion at the break.
The Cardinals hit for 19 points in the third period, but only managed to pick up a point. They were outscored 17-5 in the fourth quarter.
Tomasso pumped out a game-high 29 points with six treys and also went 5-for-6 at the charity stripe. Pipher had 21 markers, which included five 3-pointers.
Jake VanHouten and Isaiah Bretz scored eight and seven points, respectively, for Waverly.
Danny Pirger and Joe Rombach scored 11 points each for NV, and had one 3-pointer apiece. Landon Spoonhower hit a pair of treys and chipped in with 10 points.
Gavin Mann added four points, Troy Middendorf had three and Dan Truesdail tacked on two.
Newark Valley travels to Trumansburg Thursday.
