NEWARK VALLEY — Trevor Middendorf and Logan Woodin captured weight class titles as Newark Valley placed third in a field of 11 teams at the Larry Goodrich Memorial Wrestling Tournament Saturday.

Woodin went 5-0 with four pins, three in the first period, and defeated Holland Patent’s Eli Doxtader, 6-2, for the title at 110 pounds.

Middendorf was 3-0 with two shutouts and a first-period fall at 102. He decisioned Rush-Henrietta’s Vitalli Pushnin, 6-0, for first.

Peter Basti was the runner-up at 189, scoring the day’s quickest fall (8 seconds) in his first bout. He added pins of 51 seconds and 1:45 before falling to Central Valley’s Ethan Randall by fall in 1:39 in the championship round.

Seth Nothrup was second at 215. He sandwiched 7-3 and 5-3 verdicts around spins of five minutes and 35 seconds before suffering a 52-second fall against Elmira’s Ethan Hernandez.

The Cardinals had three place-winners at 132 in Dylan Iversen (3rd), Logan Rhodes (4th) and Marcos Escalante (5th).

Iversen went 2-1 with a pair of pins, Rhodes was 3-1 with three falls and a decision, and Escalante went 3-2 with two pins.

John Turnbull took fourth at 160, going 2-2 with two falls.

Gabe Merrill placed fifth at 152 and was 3-2 with three pins.

At 215, Derek Payne was fifth. He went 3-2 with a pair of falls.

Also placing fifth was Austin DeBolt, 2-2 with two falls.

Caden Creeley (138) and Titus Callahan (152) placed seventh, and Kaiden Pado (152) was eighth.

Also competing for NV were James Hackett (118), Troy Vaughn (160) and Tyler Mallia (172).

Central Valley won the team title with 76 points to edge out Rush-Henrietta, which finished with 73. The Cardinals scored 58.
