TIOGA COUNTY — It’s going to be a busy day for sports fans as four basketball teams and three wrestling teams are in action.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Candor (0-1) vs. Edison (0-1), TBA: The Indians face the loser of Edison in the consolation game. Mason Slade scored 23 points to lead Groton to a 46-44 win over Candor in the first round Friday.
Owego (0-1) vs. Susquehanna Valley (2-0), 6 p.m.: The Indians and Sabers close out the opening day of the Charlie Sibley Memorial Tournament. Sus Valley is coming off a win in the Walton Tip-Off Tournament.
The Indians’ JV team plays Sus Valley at 4 p.m.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Newark Valley (1-0) at Anthony C. Drago Tournament, TBA: The Cardinals turned back Horseheads, 57-48, in the first round to advance to the championship game against host Oneonta or Fonda-Fultonville.
Owego vs. Marcellus (0-1), 4 p.m.: The Indians begin the season against a Mustangs team which is coming off a one-point loss.
The JV game will be played at 6 p.m.
WRESTLING
Newark Valley, Owego at Larry Goodrich Memorial Tournament, 10 a.m.: The Cardinals host the annual event, which includes the Indians.
SVEC at Clyde Cole Tournament, 9 a.m.: The Eagles wrap up tournament action. Kaleb Soto and Caden Ruben were seeded fifth and sixth, respectively, at 118 pounds.
