AUBURN — The Newark Valley bowling teams opened the season on the road Monday, splitting with Union Springs / Port Byron at Starlight Lanes.

BOYS
NV 3, US/PB 1
Paced by John Umiker’s high game of the day, a 212, the Cardinals emerged with an 888-793 win in the third game, also giving them a 2400-2278 advantage in total pinfall.

NV won the opening game, 825-786, then US/PB came back to squeak out a 699-687 win in game two.

Umiker rolled a 541 series to edge out the host’s Matt Howell (203-536) for top honors.

John Fiacco shot 187-518, Brandon Eynon scored a 194-474 and John Mincher had a 178-449.

Owen Sailus added a 148-410 and Lane Underwood tacked on a 151-357.

In exhibition, Barden Hines posted a 191-500.

GIRLS
US/PB 4, NV 0
US/PB swept the match behind Caroline Smead’s 224-542 performance and Colleen Jump’s 206-527 effort.

The home team won by scores of 784-511, 844-493 and 760-549, giving them the total pinfall, 2388-1553.

For NV, Alyssa Brown was the top kegler with a 143-397. Casidy Downey added a 128-345 and Rachel Hartman scored a 124-338.

Lexi Rosengrant, Lyla Dufresne and Grace Guiles added series of 241, 232 and 167, respectively.
