COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY: NV GRAD SHERWOOD COMPETES FOR WESTERN CAROLINA (2022-11-21)

CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Newark Valley grad Jonny Sherwood completed his freshman season for the Western Carolina University cross country team recently.

Sherwood ran in four races. His collegiate debut came in the Covered Bridge Open, where he completed the 8-kilometer course in 28:58.26, placing 108th out of 146 finishers.

His next race was the Live in Lou Classic, where he knocked more than 2 ½ minutes off his previous time, clocking 26:23.3. He finished 199th in a field of 416 finishers.

At the Upstate Invitational, Sherwood posted a 26:29.8 and was 48th out of 132 finishers.

In his final race of the season, the Southern Conference championships, he placed 44th in a field of 86 runners and recorded his fastest time of the season, 26:14.16.
