TAYLOR MADE: AN INTRODUCTION IS IN ORDER (2018-08-26)

Tioga County Sports Report has been up and running for two weeks now, so it's time you learned a little bit more about me.

I'm a native of Nichols, New York and a 1979 graduate of Tioga, where I competed in wrestling, cross country and track & field. I wrestled at Tompkins-Cortland Community College and mingled in club wrestling during the early years of a 22-year career in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve.

I also coached youth baseball in New York and California, and coached and officiated wrestling in New York and Colorado.

My background in journalism dates back to November 1981 when I was a statistician at a Section IV bowl game and received my first writing assignment in November 1982.

I have covered high school sports in six different states and worked for 11 different publications (print & electronic).

Now that we've dispensed with all that stuff that (hopefully) made my mama proud, let's talk about why I'm here.

I am currently the managing editor of Tioga County Sports Report. I am here to give the Candor, Newark Valley and Owego-Apalachin and Spencer-Van Etten athletes the coverage they have far too long deserved and for much too often been denied.

While TCSR will cover these four schools, it will also be linked to our sister site, valleysportsreport.com, which has been covering Waverly and Tioga for the past nine years. So, after perusing TCSR and clicking on the Waverly or Tioga site, you can also refer to the VSR home page.

The owner of these two sites, Tim Birney, decided earlier this year the rest of Tioga County has gone far too long without the proper sports media coverage - so here we are.

My goal is too provide the four school districts and youth organizations in the surrounding communities the best coverage possible. However, to succeed it needs to be a team effort.

To do this, I am seeking the cooperation of the athletic directors and their staffs and the coaches, even the fans. Obviously, I need the coaches to submit their team's results, but if you're someone who enjoys photography, let me know. Maybe we can use your photos.
