SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: OWEGO IMPROVES TO 8-3 WITH WIN OVER TIOGA (2022-10-01)

OWEGO — Owego broke open a 1-1 deadlock with a pair of second-period goals and went on to defeat Tioga, 5-1, in Section IV Division III field hockey action on Senior Night here Friday.
Ava Brown scored with 3:33 on the clock to give the Indians the advantage for good and Chelsea Rollison made it 3-1 with 15 ticks left in the half.
Autumn Hankey gave Owego the initial lead with an early goal at 12:39 of the opening period, but the Tigers evened it up following a penalty corner at 5:44 of the second quarter. McKenzie Williams got the goal with Abby Johnson picking up the assist.
The Indians tacked on a pair of second-half insurance goals, both unassisted, by Kennedi Wilson and Lexi Cheeseman.
Owego took 41 shots to Tioga’s two. The Indians also held a 21-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Chloe Gillette was busy in goal for the visitors, making 36 saves. Mya Lunn had one for the Indians.
Owego (8-3) travels to Windsor (9-2) Monday.
