IAC GIRLS SOCCER: CANDOR BATTLES HARD IN LOSS TO O-M (2022-09-30)

ODESSA — Candor grabbed a 2-1 halftime lead, but was unable to hold off Odessa-Montour in a 3-2 IAC girls soccer loss Thursday.

“Last night our team played great, only one sub on the bench, but they gave it their all the entire game,” Candor coach Scott Morse said. “It was a good game even though we still have athletes out sick.”

The Indians scored about 4 ½ minutes into the game, but O-M rallied to tie things up less than three minutes later.

With 1 ½ minutes remaining in the half, Candor would score to take the lead again.

Unfortunately for the Indians, the Grizzlies would bounce back with help from penalties.

“There were two penalty kicks called against us which, let’s just say, the referee who called them both will not get a good report from me,” Morse said.

The Grizzlies knotted the score early in the second half on a rebound off a penalty kick.

The score would remain deadlocked until O-M scored on a penalty kick with less than six minutes to go.

Meradyth had a goal and an assist for the Indians, and Kaitlyn scored the other goal.

O-M school record holder Hannah Nolan scored two of her team’s goals to bring her career total to 77.

JIllian Holmes made 15 saves for the Indians and Keyonna Garrison had three for O-M, which improved to 7-3.

Candor hosts Newark Valley Saturday morning.
