NEWARK VALLEY — The Newark Valley girls soccer team recognized its seniors with a 13-0 romp over an understaffed Tioga team here in IAC girls soccer action here Thursday.

The Cardinals rolled to a 9-0 halftime advantage as they improved to 9-1-1 overall.

NV brought in portable lighting to give the players an opportunity to have a home game under the lights.

“It was senior night for the team,”NV coach Chuck Schneider said. “The girls were excited for their first home game under the lights in program history.”

“There are seven seniors this year and the team worked hard to help each senior have a goal,” Schneider said.

“The game was played 9-v-9 with Tioga having injuries,” he added. “Tioga's best chances came in the second half."

Emma Miller scored five goals and doled out five assists to lead the way.

Kathryn Simmons connected for a pair of goals. Aubrey Kwiatkowski, Clara McCloskey and Kat Schanbacher contributed one goal and one assist apiece.

Hayley Beebe, Isabella Shiel and Kylee Carrier added one goal each while Olivia Vaughn and Kamryn Short tacked on one assist apiece.

The Cardinals outshot Tioga, 27-3, and had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

“Olivia Vaughn had stepped in for the keeper at halftime to give Kylee a chance to get her first varsity goal,” Schneider said. “Olivia came up big with saves.”

Newark Valley visits Candor Saturday morning.
