STAC BOYS SOCCER: OWEGO CONTINUES TO ROLL (2022-09-28)

OWEGO — After being ignored by the pollsters in the first two state rankings, the Owego boys soccer team finally made its debut this week at No. 16 in Class B. The Indians responded by putting a 5-1 thumping on Chenango Valley here Wednesday night.

Cousins Kyle and Jace Riegel accounted for one goal and one assist apiece.

Noah Fowler, Vasil Brich and Zach Beyer recorded one goal each. Ryan Pryor and Drew Tavelli added one assist apiece.

“We got off to an electric start which always helps set the tone and open the game up,” Owego coach Alessio De Michele said. “We didn’t make the most of our chances and gave away a few opportunities in the first half after a very bright start.

“The second half we had a better territorial advantage through our possession and we made better decisions on and off the ball.

“The impact from our substitutes was terrific,” he added. “I’ve always said the strength of the group is our star player and each player continues to show that so it’s very pleasing as a coach.”

The Indians (9-0) have now outscored their opponents, 40-5.

Owego visits 6th-ranked Oneonta Friday, a team it defeated, 2-1, Sept. 21.
