NEWARK VALLEY — Walton scored an early goal and was able to make it hold up for a 1-0 Section IV field hockey victory over Newark Valley here Tuesday.

Jacqlyn Gransbury scored unassisted for the Warriors, who controlled possession but were unable to get another ball past NV goalie Sandy Vaughn. Vaughn finished the game with 11 saves.

Walton took 12 shots and had 14 penalty corners while NV had one shot and six corners.

Emma Wood had one save in goal for the visitors.

The Cardinals host Whitney Point Wednesday. The Golden Eagles are ranked fourth in the Northeast Region by maxfieldhockey.com.
