NEWFIELD — Kathryn Simmons scored four goals while Emma Miller added a goal and two assists to lead Newark Valley to a 6-1 victory over Newfield here Tuesday.
Olivia Vaughn and Isabella Shiel contributed a goal and an assist, respectively.
Simmons and Miller combined to accomplish all the scoring needed early in the first half.
Taking a pass from Miller, Simmons found herself one-on-one with the keeper and made it 1-0 just 3:45 into the first half. Two minutes later the duo would repeat the feat with Simmons again scoring the goal.
Newfield would get on the board after a deflected ball found its way into open field near the half-field and a charging Aaliyah McCoy went to the goal and found the back of the net with 31:20 left in the first half.
Miller added to the NV lead, taking a failed clear and scoring from the top of the 18.
Simmons took a pass from Shiel and scored with 10 minutes left in the first half.
Simmons would strike one last time when she crossed a ball into the box that took a favorable bounce into the net with nine minutes left in the game.
The Cardinals took 18 shots to Newfield’s three and held a 7-2 cushion in corner kicks.
Kylie Carrier made two saves for NV and Sierra Lynch grabbed a dozen for the Trojans.
Newark Valley (8-1-1) hosts Tioga Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
