IAC VOLLEYBALL: CANDOR OUTLASTS S-VE, 3-2 (2022-09-26)

Tioga County Sports Report
CANDOR — Candor outlasted S-VE for a 3-2 IAC South Small School volleyball victory here Monday.

The Indians won the second and third sets, 25-18 and 25-21, and the decisive fifth set, 15-12.

S-VE took the opening game, 25-14, then forced a fifth set with a 25-21 win in the fourth game.

The loss, combined with Tioga's win over Newark Valley, dropped the Panthers behind the Tigers in the division chase. S-VE defeated Tioga last week for the first time in several years.

“Great match with some good rallies and tough defense on both sides of the court,” said Indians coach Pam Quinlan.

"It was a great time playing Candor tonight,” added S-VE coach Erika Brown. “They have a great group of girls."

For Candor, Kate Stouffer had nine service points, two kills and two assists; Phoebe Swartz recorded nine service points, four aces and 27 assists; Janelle Marsh chipped in with eight service points, nine kills and eight digs; and Grace Handy had six service points, four aces and six kills.

Nicola Soper contributed eight kills and four digs; Emma Kelsey contributed seven service points, two aces and five digs; Luci Ray added eight service points, three aces, six kills and one block; and Rosie Hurd tacked on eight digs.

Faith Brenchley registered one ace, 12 digs and 17 assists for the Panthers. Lilyanah Doolittle pitched in with three kills; Marah Cooper had four aces, 11 digs and 16 kills; Adriena Farmer added four aces, five digs and one block; Jackie Brown came away with 16 digs; Kaili Root had four kills; and Amya Vanderpoel added four digs.

“Spencer-Van Etten and Candor played travel volleyball together this last winter and it's nice to see the growth in both teams," coach Brown said. "Spencer-Van Etten was down a few key players tonight and it showed. Candor has always had a great volleyball program.

“Soper had a few amazing hits on the line that were hard for us to recover from.

“My girls are excited to meet up again in a few weeks.”

On Wednesday, Candor hosts Newfield and S-VE hosts Odessa-Montour.

JV: Candor won by scores of 25-8 and 25-18
